Week 4
This week we learned how to properly plan for a website you're going to design ( Plan big, execute small). We we're shown examples of poorly designed sites and despite how good the information is, a fugly looking site would turn any visitor to your site away (http://ronoslund.com/) .
Planning a site has many steps:
- What are the site's goals? Give a clear indication of what your sites purpose which people can understand easily.
- Who will use the site? Potential/existing Clients. Don't plan on catering to much for those who wont be using it.
- The Clients purpose on your site? 'At the very least have a brand embedded in their brains'.
- Potential failures? Poor presentation, people may think the company is illegitimate. Bland site, people get distracted/bored and leave.
Important notes: Dont copy other peoples work ( you weren't allowed to do it in secondary school and you cant do it now!). Dont work backwards from an 'finished idea' in your head, plan accordingly. Less is more, just because you can add something to your site doesn't always mean you should.
Again, as for every other week, we gained more inspirational/helpful links to our delicious accounts. We began to use the simple codes from last week ( Colouring, font size, etc...) and move them into the Css folder. I particularly liked the a: link, visited, hover and active codes used to change the colour/size of links.
A useful site for colours that compliment each other, should prove very useful for designing a good looking site: https://kuler.adobe.com/#themes/rating?time=30
